DIY// Doggie Ice Cube Treats

Our Yoda loves ice cubes.

He's obsessed with them. We think it's because he's teething (as in, we've found little baby puppy teeth around the house), but it could just be that he's a weird dog-thing (we still aren't 100% convinced that he's not a cat). But for now, we can't go into the kitchen and reach for ice cubes to add to a drink without him looking at us with those pitiful little eyes.
He looks like he's crying, but I promise he's not. He just has terrible tear stains.
The other day, we saw something online that gave us the idea to try and make him some doggie ice cube "treats". We made two different versions to start with- chicken and blueberry- but only the chicken ones turned out "successful" in our minds. After seeing how the blueberries dyed the ice cube tray, we decided that we'd rather not introduce our floors to the color of blue, for fear that they might decide to stay that way forever. Especially since the dinglefloof likes to drag his ice cubes all around the house.

Our chicken flavored treats turned out really yummy, though (according to Yoda) AND more importantly for this tired preggo- they were super easy to make.

Things You Will Need:
  • Ice cube tray
  • Chicken broth
  • Water
  • Shredded chicken
How to Make:
  1. Water down the chicken broth. We didn't use any specific ratios- I had a box that has been in the fridge for a bit that was about 1/4 full and I poured some water into it. I don't know if this is completely necessary, but I was concerned about the amount of sodium in the broth and didn't want the treats to be too salty.
  2. Pour into the ice cube tray. I filled them up mostly full, but not completely.
  3. Add a piece or two of shredded chicken to each "cube". I varied this per cube, some had more/some had less...depending on how big each piece was.
  4. Freeze for a few hours until solid.
  5. Pop them out and stick them in a ziplock to keep in the freezer until it's time for doggie to get a treat!
I'm not sure how many of these we are really "supposed" to give to puppy a day, but we've been giving him one chicken flavored a day and the rest of the time we just give him a regular ice cube (or an apple slice, carrot, or blueberry). He thinks the treats are super yummy, and I don't feel like I'm feeding him cookies all day!

27 Week Bumpdate

So...yeah...
We made it to 27 weeks (and a few days, if we are being technical about it). I'm too tired to go to the effort of taking a picture...but I figured a bumpdate could be fun. :)

How far along: 27 weeks (almost to the 3rd Trimester!)

Size of baby: About 2 pounds, the size of a cauliflower, and possibly somewhere in the realm of 14 inches. But, this girl hasn't ever been typical for her size. Miss Long Legs. :)

Sleep: When I'm not fighting insomnia, back pain, or trying to figure out a way to sleep on my side...I'm sleeping quite well. :)

Symptoms: Tired. Nauseas. Baby loves kicking me in the ribs and pushing my stomach up my throat. But, she's also kicking up a storm and loves doing backflips, so that's kind of cool, right?

Cravings: I'm still all about that ice water. And salty things.

Gender: Girly girl.

Maternity clothes: Yes, no, maybe? Lots of leggings and sweatpants that aren't officially maternity. But, shirts are definitely maternity. :)

Miss anything?: Sleep. Being able to see my toes. Being able to put shoes on by myself.

Best moment this week: This week has honestly just been a typical week. Nothing terribly special. I guess it's funny when the puppies are sitting on my lap and she kicks them...

Looking forward to: Growth ultrasound on Monday (since we declined the gestational diabetes test and I'm still struggling with weight gain) and OB appointment on Tuesday! Can't wait to get another look at our sweet Sarah Claire!
